New public education project for FlexFuel Vehicles debuts

Biofuels Digest
Jim Lane October 28, 2011

In Washington, a new public education project to reach drivers of FlexFuel Vehicles (FFV) by working with state Motor Vehicle Administrations (MVA) was announced today that supporters say could dramatically increase sales of high-level ethanol blends. As a part of the national FFV Awareness Campaign, the “FlexFuel Vehicle/Motor Vehicle Administration” project will collaborate with MVAs in six states to define opportunities to leverage their existing outreach capabilities to all drivers, and specifically owners of FFVs. Outreach opportunities can be in the form of developing the FFV owner database, vehicle registration and license renewals, safety inspection and emissions notices, and including information with the energy/emergency preparedness program, state websites, and at point of service.

The Faces of Biofuels

Biofuels Digest
Jim Lane February 8, 2011

A few weeks ago, Propel Fuels and Biofuels Digest undertook to discover, and publish, the stories of people that use renewable fuels. Too often, in our view, stories about renewable energy focus on oil companies, or the environmental establishment, or renewable energy producers, or financiers of fuel.

What do the actual customers believe? Why do they use renewable fuels - motivated by green concerns, price, location, the cool factor, or something else. We want to know why, and know them. We’ll continue to publish this as an occasional series, and we are deeply appreciative to the team at Propel Fuels, who have helped to bring the stories of their customers to national media for the first time.

Biofuels Market Expansion Act calls for more FFVs, blender pumps

Ethanol Producer Magazine
By Holly Jessen January 27, 2011

The Biofuels Market Expansion Act of 2011 has been introduced in the U.S. Senate, with a goal of increasing the number of flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs), blender pumps and renewable fuel pipelines. “Biofuels displace close to 10 percent of our gasoline supplies, and they have the potential to make significantly larger contributions,” said Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, who rolled out the bill Jan. 25. “[This] is an important step in our overall energy policy and a job generator for Iowa and our nation as a whole.”

USDA Joins FlexFuel Vehicle Awareness Effort

PR Newswire

Effort Focused on Increasing Usage of High Level Ethanol Blends in FFVs

WASHINGTON, Dec. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Clean Fuels Foundation announced today that they are working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to expand public awareness on fueling options available to owners of flexible fuel vehicles (FFV).

The FFV awareness effort is targeting several areas across the country to increase the use of ethanol blends in FlexFuel vehicles. "Breaking through the blend wall begins with the 8 million FlexFuel vehicles on the road today, and reaching these drivers to make sure they know they can use ethanol blends up to 85%," said Agriculture Under Secretary for Rural Development Dallas Tonsager. Tonsager also noted FFVs of any age can use E15 or any other gasoline ethanol blend up to E85 and can take advantage of favorable market pricing on these blends when offered.

GPS App Finds 85 Percent Ethanol Stations

DomesticFuel.com
Posted by Cindy Zimmerman – November 23rd, 2009

Want to know where you can buy E85? There’s an app for that now.

The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) today launched a new application for Garmin GPS units that that maps out the location of E85 (85% ethanol/15% gasoline) for users with flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs).

“The most frustrating thing for many FFV owners is not knowing where they can fill up with higher level ethanol blends, like E85,” said RFA Director of Market Development Robert White. “With this new feature, drivers going to the grocery store or to Grandma’s for Thanksgiving will know the exact location of the nearest E85 pump.”
