Empathy and apathy in ethanol

It's been said that one shouldn't take advice from people with missing fingers, but when talk turns to farm economics, there's one piece of advice that points tremulously in one direction.
"I'd keep Grandpa plugged into your decision-making," said Michigan State University agriculture economist David Schweikhardt. "We may need his experience."
It's advice that should be well-considered, since the economy balances on a picket fence. Also needed - but scarce - are grandpas who remember what it was like to go through the Great Depression, which some economists say is the only situation akin to today's world-wide problem.
